Bullying

Bullying, including verbal, physical, electronic and emotional bullying, will not be tolerated.  If you believe / know your child is being bullied contact your child’s Tutor or Head of Year immediately.  The table on the right may help.

Any student who uses any form of media or spoken word to bully or ridicule other students, or insult or denigrate staff will face severe disciplinary procedures of the College. This includes the use of the social media, texts, email and web pages to insult, bully or denigrate a student or member of staff.

Bullying of students or abuse of staff, in any form, will not be tolerated.  


What is bullying?

Bullying is the deliberate and repeated desire to hurt, threaten or frighten someone.

Bullying can be physical, verbal, emotional, racist, sexist or homophobic.

Bullying can be ‘virtual’ – for example using Facebook or texts.


Are you being bullied?

Make sure you can describe the behaviour that is causing the problem for example

‘Student A has been punching me on purpose for the last three weeks’

Is it   happening on a regular basis?

NO

Maybe you have had a fall out with a friend. This is not bullying.

YES



Do you   think the person or group is doing   this on purpose?

NO

Try and tell them how you feel and ask them to   stop.  They may not realise what they are doing. This is not bullying.

YES



Do you   feel hurt, threatened or frightened?

NO

Perhaps you are part of some ‘banter’ or teasing  that is getting out of hand. This could be bullying if you have already asked

them to stop.

YES



This   could be bullying.

Tell a member of staff.

ANY FORM OF BULLYING USING ELECTRONIC MEANS IS UNACCEPTABLE

• Any form of e-bullying of a student or member of staff (e.g.taking and sending/

distributing images or inappropriate text/social media messages) done from ANY location using web-based or other electronic applications and/or hardware is

unacceptable and disciplinary action will be taken by the College. Mobile phones are not allowed on the College site unless switched off: this is part of our policy to prevent E-bullying.


• The College advises students about the dangers of using email and social networking sites and the College website has guidance pages and appropriate links

for staff/students and parents/carers.
