Welcome  to the complete guide for parents and carers of students attending Exmouth Community College

We can all ensure the success of students at Exmouth Community College if we work together as parents/carers and teachers to support and encourage the young people in our care so that they see the value of hard work, education and high standards.

This guide is an affirmation of our Triangle of Partnership with you and your child and we look forward to developing that partnership over the next year. As an Academy our aspirations and standards are high.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch with us if you have any concerns or simply require further information. I would be most grateful if you would read this guide with your child. The site will be updated as necessary in the course of the academic year.

A Message from the Principal, Mr Andrew Davis, to all Parents & Carers

I believe that our college is a very special place to learn and work. I am immensely proud to have been appointed to the post of principal at such a well-regarded school.

I know from my previous time at the college how great Exmouth students are and this was a key reason for wanting to return to the college following my tenure in 2006 as Deputy Principal for three years. Since then I have been Principal in two other schools: Dawlish Community College, just across the estuary and Huish Episcopi Academy, an 11-18 academy in Somerset with over 1500 students.

Throughout my career my primary concern has always been to support the needs of the individual. My motivation lies in the basic belief that by providing an outstanding educational experience we are able to make a difference to the lives of the young people who attend our college.

This educational experience is based around three core principles that underpin our work here at Exmouth.

1. Consistently excellent teaching everyday which challenges, inspires and engages students in deep learning underpinned by an imaginative and differentiated curriculum. This is complemented by a co-curricular programme which allows all students the opportunity to develop wider skills increasing their future employability, such as teamwork and leadership as well as expanding their horizons and expectations.

2. Outstanding pastoral care which recognises every student as an individual and is able to provide effective support as and when it is needed; treating all students with respect and humanity.

3. Ensuring our College is at the heart of our community, whether that is through events the school can support, providing facilities for the local community or listening to the needs of the business community to guide our provision. This will ensure that students who pass through our college have the skills, empathy and understanding to maximise their potential for learning in later life and make a positive contribution to society.

These principles are driven by the desire for Exmouth Community College to be regarded across the South West as a beacon of great learning; for parents and carers, from across our community, to be overwhelmingly positive about the education we provide for their children and for teachers from other institutions to regularly visit our school for inspiration.

As a college we are committed to the pursuit of excellence for every child in our care whilst recognising that this may look very different for individuals who may excel in a variety of ways, from the sports field to the drama studio, from Russell Group University offers to acceptance on apprenticeship schemes.

We endeavour to ensure that every individual child achieves more than they ever thought possible.

A major advantage of being a large school are the numerous facilities that our students have available to them which include:

Additionally, our size means that we are able to differentiate our curriculum offer to meet the needs of individual students. This includes vocationally based routes alongside gifted and talented pathways which have resulted in students regularly leaving our Sixth Form to join the UK’s top universities, including Oxford and Cambridge.

Due to the popularity of our college we will also be benefit from further significant investment which will see the redevelopment of the Humanities block at a cost of over ten million pounds, phase two of the new Mathematics Block and additional fitness facilities.

Facilities are, however, only one part of our story; even more important are the excellent supportive pastoral and academic relationships between staff and students, which enables students to develop their confidence and blossom into independent learners fully prepared for the next stage of their journey through life.

We hope our website gives you an insight into the work of our school and demonstrates our determination to provide a world class education, in every sense of the word, for your child. We very much hope that you will entrust your child with us on the next stage of their journey.

I am always happy to conduct tours to enable you to see our school on a normal working day.

Please do not hesitate to get in touch if you wish to discover more about our school.

I look forward to meeting you and your family.
