Tourism Award

 Level 2 Award Tourism (WJEC)

This is an exciting new course which introduces one of the most important and dynamic employment sectors in the UK.  Learning is focused on applied learning and you will be able to apply your knowledge and skills on a range of tasks set in a tourism context.  A range of visits will be made to key tourist organisations such as attractions.  The course will help learners progress to further study or enter the workplace.

Successful completion of this course together with other equivalent qualifications, could open access to Level 3 courses (e.g. A levels in Leisure Studies/Travel & Tourism and BTECs) and apprenticeships in travel services, cabin crew and aviation operations on the ground.  Tasks set are motivating as they are set in real world contexts.

The course is set around the concept of a ‘plan, do, review’ approach to learning.  The course is assessed by the completion of 3 units. Unit 1 Customer Experience and unit 3 Developing UK Tourist Destinations are Internal assessed as portfolios.  Unit 2 Business of Tourism is an exam which is externally assessed.  The course is graded Pass, Merit and Distinction.

What qualifications do I need?

College course requirements: 4 GCSEs, grade D or above or equivalent.  You will need to have a positive attitude and an ability to solve problems.  An ability to work independently and a willingness to work with others are useful skills.
