Teaching Staff

We expect all staff to attend whilst taking account of the prevailing conditions and not putting themselves at unreasonable risk.

Staff should check with local radio in very severe weather from 6 a.m.

If unable to travel by car the use of train/bus should be considered.

If living in Exmouth we would hope that staff could walk to work  - but only if this did not entail any unreasonable risk .

In order to make appropriate decisions the College must be informed if staff are unable to come to work at the earliest opportunity, before 7.00 a.m. TELEPHONE: 01395 255600

You should consult the website from 7 a.m. Any partial or full closure will be placed on this page / the home page as soon as the decision has been made.

If you are attempting to use alternative means of transport and may arrive late you must inform college by 7.30 a.m.

Staff travelling to work by car should monitor the local radio for updates on school closures in bad weather.

Morning briefing will be held at 8.20 a.m. as normal

Senior Management

In very severe weather,  a decision will be made prior to 7.30 a.m. if possible and this will sent to local media and posted to our website. (S Rogers/D Turner/G Allen are able to add/change update this page from home if they are unable to attend. R Childs can make changes 9 am - 5 pm if present) The decision to close will be made by the Principal/Deputy Principal and be agreed by the Chair of Governors or her delegated colleague and the assessment will be made against the Risk Assessment

Decisions will be based on:

 *Health and Safety of students and staff both travelling to and from college and when at college,  including the ability to make the site safe, heat the buildings, provide toilet facilities and catering and the likely prevailing conditions for the rest of the day, in particular the ability of students and staff to return home safely.

 Number of staff likely to be present based on information available at the time

Parents/Carers/Students

The College will endeavour to remain open at all times shown on the College calendar.

Our priority is to ensure students can take their public examinations

If the College is closed it will be based on the following:

 Students will be unsafe* on site because of the weather conditions or it will be unsafe for them to travel/walk to college.

 Insufficient staff will be in attendance  because they are unable to travel due to the conditions.

 The ability to make the site safe, heat the buildings, provide toilet facilities and catering and the likely prevailing conditions for the rest of the day, in particular the ability of students and staff to return home safely.

Parents/Carers must make the decision whether it is safe for their child to travel/walk to College but the decision to keep children at home should only be made when it would be dangerous to send a child to school.   You are reminded of your legal responsibility to ensure your child attends school.

In severe weather Parents should check this page/the home page  and/or on BBC Devon/Heart Radio to hear lists of school closures.

A decision will be made by  7.30 a.m. if possible.

If possible we will make an announcement on our website by 7.30 a.m. (See top right)

Students travelling by school bus: the contractor may cancel the service under severe conditions.

Parents should check local radio to establish if this is the case.  If the buses are running it is highly unlikely that the College will be closed.

Early closure during the school day

Decisions will be made based on the risk assessment criteria

Parents will be informed by text/email  and website

Staff will be informed by "runner"/announcements/screens
