Reading for Pleasure
'The National Literacy Trust states that students who read for pleasure have better academic and life outcomes and success'
Exmouth Community College has replaced Accelerate Reader with a Reading for Pleasure scheme. A reading for pleasure culture provides intrinsic motivation to read. Primary schools work hard to get all pupils reading (for pleasure), but secondary schools have a responsibility to keep pupils reading for pleasure. Students who read for pleasure, in turn read more and reading ages increase, as does a thirst for reading and knowledge.
Students are expected to read 3 books each half-term and complete their reading ruler (see above), they can then collect their reward from the library. In addition to this, they are entered into a half-term prize draw.
